Neighborhood Guide: Otztal Valley, Solden
Tyrol’s 65-kilometer-long Ötztal Valley divides the Alpine range, leaving Stubai Alps on the East and Ötztal Alps on the West. This vast, impressive landscape lures those who revel in mountaineering, while the Ötztaler Ache River provides diversion to water sports enthusiasts. Altitude variations characterize the valley, creating both climatic and scenic variety, from green rolling orchards at the base to massive glaciers at its uppermost end. Sölden's twin glaciers—Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner—are the jewels in this crown. Below are Sigi Grüner shares his favorite spots for biking, hiking, and reviving in his much-beloved birthplace and year-round playground.
